Important Daylight Savings Time Notification

**Please read this notice in its entirety.   This notice is to inform you, our customer, that updates will be needed on your local computer(s) in order to have accurate calendar information in your MailStreet Hosted Exchange mailbox. (This notice was originally sent to all technical and billing contacts on February 26th, 2007) **

Dear MailStreet Customer,

Due to the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the United States Congress has changed the dates for Daylight Savings Time (DST) across the United States and Canada.  Given this change, we are required to update our operating environment.  This communication provides background on this legislation and describes the required changes to your environment.

Impact of Daylight Saving Time Changes in 2007 The U.S.  Congress has passed an Act changing the dates for Daylight Saving Time (DST) in 2007.  This law goes into effect this year and the change expands DST by four weeks.  DST will begin on the second Sunday in March and end on the first Sunday in November (previously DST began on the first Sunday in April and ended on the last Sunday in October).

Who is Affected?

The majority of the United States and Canada is affected by the DST change.  Exceptions to this include: • Arizona (with the exception of the Navajo Nation) and Hawaii and the territories of Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam. • Major portions of Saskatchewan and parts of northeastern British Columbia.

DST Change — Effect on Technology and Computing Systems Any systems, software applications or electronic devices that rely on DST information to properly use or display time will be affected by the US Congress’ DST change.   For example, your Windows PC, Outlook calendar, mobile devices (BlackBerry, Treo, and other handhelds), servers (Microsoft Exchange) and similar date-dependent applications are all affected.

Without software updates from your application vendors, appointments and reminders may appear an hour later.

To address this required change, updates must be applied on all of our customers’ computers after MailStreet has completely updated our environment.  MailStreet will be finished performing all of the necessary server side updates from Microsoft by Feb.  26th 2007.   Good Technologies is releasing their DST server patch on 2/28.  We will send an update out once we have evaluated the information from Good.

After evaluating alternatives, MailStreet determined that it was in our customers’ best interest to apply the client-side changes so that MailStreet did not “override” any calendar items.   Due to this decision all client side updates that are required on our customers’ computers will have to be done by our customers.

To ensure no issues once DST is adjusted on March 11th, 2007, we ask that you perform all client side updates between February 26th – March 10th 2007.   In the event the update is not performed by March 11th, 2007 the clients will notice that any calendar items set up as either a singled occurrence, or reoccurring meeting invite will be off by 2 hours.

Please follow the instructions below when updating your users’ computers:

Respectfully,

MailStreet Technical Support

Instructions for DST updates – We apologize, but we do not have information for non-Microsoft based systems including Apple Macintosh and other flavors of Unix/Linux.  Please refer to the computer or operating system manufacturer for details on their approach to the DST issue.  We have heard that some users with Windows 2000 are also having difficutly getting support from Microsoft for this issue.   Unfortunately MailStreet does not have the necessary Microsoft patches for customer running Windows 2000 PCs.
